I'm a complete newbie to this, been meaning to start jumping since about 2001 and then booked into do my first jump in 2008 before i got a hernia and had to pull out. Since then it's been family, work, and a kid but now i've decided that enough is enough and i'm going to kick off with my first jump in January 2012.
Poking around the forums I noticed some questions on life and income protection insurance. I work for an Income Protection company as a claims manager so if there are any questions on that stuff I'll try to answer them in partial repayment for all the stupid questions I'll no doubt ask!

The plan is to start my AFF at Sydney Skydivers in January. I'm goign to skip the tandem and go straight to the course with the two jump package.
As for stupid questions I like to remember what Mr Garrison from south park says "there are no stupid questions, only stupid people"

has been a while since i've actually been in the mix after a pretty dramatic change of circumstances back in 2006 which led to me having to sell off my brand new rig, which was then stolen by someone posing as a buyer after i made the mistake (?) of giving him my home address to come and check it out
anyway, life's starting to pick up a little bit again now and looks like i might be able to get back on the plane again soon, so just thought i'd have another look around 6 years on since my rig was stolen and see if anyone has seen or heard anything since then. here are the deatails:
76. Reported 11/09/2006
Container - Talon FS-5, all red with black trim & webbing.
Main - Safire 170, dark blue, white, lime green, white, dark blue..
Reserve - Airforce 160
Cypres2 s/n 21837
i made it upto to b 10 (completed up to 9) before i had to make the move back to melbourne where i am now and the rig was pinched. i drove past the tooradin dz thisafternoon and thought it looked pretty cool, actually reminded me a lot of picton. i was only there for a few months but still some of the best memories of my life so far are of the skies above picton, so hoping to reclaim some of that soon, maybe at a new home in tooradin
anyway, thanks for reading, if any of those details ring a bell with you please let me know, and maybe i'll see you around if you're a tooradin resident

Hey Kiel, sorry to hear about your rig. That's really poor form that someone would do such a thing.....Anyway
I jump at Tooradin, so if you have any questions about the place feel free to ask here or send me a PM.

I suggest you contact Cypres direct (google?), quote the SN of the unit, and see what service records they may have. I believe they keep fairly detailed records of each service, and enough time has gone by for the unit to have been through authorised service (if it is in use, anyway).
If you can locate the rig, you can then reclaim it, no matter who has it now, and no matter whether they bought it or not (laws may be different in different places, but that is the usual).
Good luck, and hope you get back into the big blue.

Pity that I'm now unemployed, means I've got plenty of time to do as many jumps as I like but no money to pay for them!

Training was pretty straight forward and I managed to get my first jump in on Saturday arvo which it turns out was a good thing because today was a bit windy and on stage 2 we could only jump from 9000' which meant not getting through all the movement stuff and dealing with a slightly more interesting ride down.
Overall I reckon it's one of the best things I've ever done and I think i'm hooked!
Everyone at picton was super cool and very helpful

Congrats on your Stages 1 and 2.
I think you'll find a lot of cool and helpfulness in skydiving.
Good job!
