Hey all! How's it going?

I'm barely even a newbie to skydiving - was just over in NZ, and my sister spent six hours nagging me into doing a skydive with her at Paihia (I felt like i was going to my execution). It was awesome, such an amazing rush (as you all know better than I), so i went back a day later and did another two jumps tandem.

Now that I'm back home in Oz, I'm looking to do my 'A' license, probably through AFF, then catch up the extra jumps to get 'A'.
Would any of you guys be able to recommend a DZ to do the AFF course through? I live on the Central Coast, and am in Sydney for part of the week. At the moment i'm looking at Just Jump at the Hunter Valley, Newcastle Sport Parachute Club, Skydive Maitland or Sydney Skydive, and am forcing myself to wait a month, and go visit some of the local clubs/DZ's to have a chat with the people there.

Anywho, hope to meet some of you as time goes on!

Hey Smiley welcome to SS!

Being spoiled for choice ain't such a bad thing at all is it :D I reckon you;re onto a good thing by doing some leg work and finding a place where you're happy, comfortable and the "vibe" seems to be your thing. Once you're more settled in the sport you will enjoy heading out and getting to other DZ's and seeing what they have to offer. I've enjoyed my time at Picton, albeit brief. I can't vouch for any of the other DZ's you mentioned but I hope that others will chime in and share their experiences.

Or you can save your $$ and lob up here for a Learning Curve Camp at Ramblers some time and smash out your AF in a week ;)

In the meantime, get to know this place and please share your AFF/Static progression when you get into it!

Martin.

Having jumped at all of the dz's that u mentioned and had a great time at all of them i would recommend that picton is the best. It has more planes and more loads go up on a particular day than the others. The people are great and very helpful. The instructors are awesome and even though it is a busy dz they will still take time to teach you well. I know of guys that have completed aff in 3 days. It is about the same travelling time from the central coast as the other drop zones as well. If you are already in sydney you can also stay the night there for i think its $15 in the bunk house which is really nice or crash on any of the other beds (except mine...) that are around which arn't as nice as the bunkhouse but dont cost anything either.
If your down there on a saturday ill film some of your jumps if u like for a cold diet coke. cheers - winston.

Hi, looking at doing the AFF course in Jan. I am midway between cessnock DZ and maitland DZ, anyone recommend one over the other or both good to do the course. I would like to do the course midweek if possible.

Welcome Kylie!

I work at Picton as an AFF instructor so I can only comment on that operation.

If you choose Sydney Skydivers you'll be doing your ground training on Saturday and first jump on Sunday.

Once you've done Stage 1 it is up to you how quickly you progress, but obviously there's merit in continuing with the stages without too much time in between.

I'd suggest a night off the grog and plenty of sleep before your training as it can be intense.

Hope to see you out there!
